Ka’Deem Carey found himself in one of the most surprising situations of the Canadian Football League offseason.
He was released by the Toronto Argonauts in early June despite rushing for more than 1,000 yards last season.
But it didn’t take long for the former Chicago Bears draft pick to find a new CFL home.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Monday that they’ve signed Carey to a contract.
Carey was huge for Toronto all the way through the Grey Cup, in which he had 79 yards and a TD as the Argonauts topped Winnipeg.
He previously led the CFL in rushing in both 2021 and 2022.
Before going north, Carey was a fourth-round pick for the Bears in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Arizona. He played in 37 games for Chicago before departing north to play for the Calgary Stampeders in 2018.
In his CFL career, Carey has averaged 5.7 yards per carry, and now he brings that 5-foot-9, 215-pound bowling-ball running style to Saskatchewan.
