When the Lions and Rams traded quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff in 2021, few anticipated the success it would bring both franchises: Stafford secured a Super Bowl with the Rams, while the Lions transformed into one of the top teams in the NFL under Goff’s leadership — along with the draft picks acquired in that deal.

The Rams and Lions are expected to be playoff contenders once more this year, making their Week 15 clash significant. They will gather on Sunday, December 14, at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox, and there’s a strong possibility the game will have playoff implications in the NFC for both teams.

Stafford mentioned on NFL Network that he’s eager to compete against Goff, Lions head coach Dan Campbell, and his former teammates.”That should be enjoyable,” Stafford remarked. “We’ve experienced some fantastic competitions.” Dan, Jared, and their team did an amazing job over the past few years steering that project in the right direction. They’re playing excellent football. We’ve lost a few coordinators, which presents a challenge.

Each season becomes a fresh opportunity when you venture out and start playing. Certainly experienced some excellent competitions over the past few years with those individuals. It will be fascinating to host it at our location in December. “I have no doubt it will be another great fight.” Stafford has gone up against the Lions on three occasions, two during the regular season and one in the playoffs. His Rams triumphed in their initial matchup at home in 2021. The remaining two matchups took place in Detroit, where the Lions emerged victorious in both: first in the playoffs following the 2023 season and again in Week One of the 2024 season. Stafford will aim to level the score in Week 14.
