Piazza, one of the most iconic figures in Mets history and widely regarded as one of the greatest-hitting catchers of all time, will join the Mets’ ownership group as part of a broader initiative to reinvigorate the franchise’s culture, legacy, and connection with fans.
“Mike is not only a Mets legend, but a symbol of passion, excellence, and commitment,” said Cohen in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome him back to the Mets family in a much deeper role.”
Though famously a catcher, Piazza was dubbed a “powerful forward” in today’s announcement — a nod to his offensive prowess and leadership that often extended beyond traditional positional boundaries.
