The Denver Broncos are in a special position right now, one that the Houston Texans were in two years ago with their then-rookie QB C.J. Stroud.
Bo Nix was a rookie last year, so in that first year, no one really expected them to make the jump they did. No one really expected him to turn into the great player he did. Sure, it took a few games because he did struggle at the beginning, as every rookie usually does. But he has blossomed into a guy who has a ton of potential.
And that made them turn into a playoff team. Now they have a great QB, who is on his rookie contract, and competing for the top spot in the AFC West, with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. They have to capitalize on the situation they are in.
This draft that they just had showed that they were serious about doing that. They continued to load up on defense, grabbing pieces that could help turn their unit into the best one in the entire league. They are already one of the best in the league, with the best pass rush, now they can compete for that the best title.
They also added a few pieces on offense that could help elevate Nix, whether it’s this year or next year. Let’s face it, the Broncos needed some help in the receiver room, so they drafted Pat Bryant. And we all know that the running game was one of the worst in the league, and it would have been the worst if the Las Vegas Raiders weren’t historically bad.
They didn’t have a rusher rush for over 100 yards in a game last season. Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin were just not getting the job done. Denver ended up taking a flyer on RJ Harvey, the former UCF RB who ran for over 1,500 rush yards the last two seasons.
And, for Harvey, a guy that many seem to be worried about at the next level, well, he is already building chemistry with one of the most important people for his rookie season — Bo Nix.
OTAs started back up this last week, and Harvey was seen many times catching some pretty good balls from Nix. The two are building that rapport that will be so vital for a successful offense in 2025
