Netflix has officially greenlit a new original documentary titled “The Gunslinger: The Brett Favre Story”, a riveting chronicle of one of the NFL’s most captivating figures. The film promises to delve deep into the life and legacy of Brett Favre — the Mississippi-born quarterback who went from overlooked Southern boy to Green Bay Packers legend, redefining toughness, leadership, and passion on the gridiron.

The documentary, scheduled for release in early 2026, will trace Favre’s rise from humble beginnings in Kiln, Mississippi to the highest echelons of professional football. Dubbed “The Gunslinger” for his fearless arm and aggressive playing style, Favre’s career is the stuff of football folklore — filled with triumphs, trials, and unmatched resilience.

Favre’s journey began with doubt. Initially doubted by scouts and overlooked by major colleges, he defied expectations and starred at the University of Southern Mississippi before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. But it was in Green Bay, after a trade that changed the course of NFL history, where Favre found his forever home. The documentary will explore how he led the Packers to their first Super Bowl title in nearly 30 years, winning Super Bowl XXXI and earning three consecutive NFL MVP awards along the way.

Produced in partnership with NFL Films and Favre’s longtime associates, the project will feature never-before-seen footage, personal interviews with Favre, his former teammates, coaches, family members, and even rivals who witnessed his greatness firsthand. The series also won’t shy away from the complexities of Favre’s post-playing life — including his controversial final seasons with the Jets and Vikings, as well as his eventual return to Green Bay’s good graces.

Netflix executives describe the series as a “raw, emotional, and inspiring American story,” one that transcends football. “This is about grit, redemption, loyalty, and legacy,” said executive producer Nina Jacobson. “Favre wasn’t just a quarterback. He was a symbol of what it means to never give up.”

Fans can expect the trailer to debut this fall, with the full documentary series expected to launch during the lead-up to Super Bowl LX. As anticipation builds, one thing is clear: Brett Favre’s story, once lived on Sundays, is now poised to captivate audiences on screens worldwide.

Football fans, get ready — the legend of “The Gunslinger” is coming to life like never before.
