In a major boost for the Collingwood Football Club, star ruckman Darcy Cameron has expressed his desire to remain at the Magpies, despite strong interest from the West Coast Eagles. The 29-year-old big man has become a key part of Collingwood’s structure and leadership group, and his commitment is welcome news for fans and teammates alike.
West Coast had been heavily linked to Cameron as part of their aggressive off-season strategy to bring experienced talent back to Western Australia. With Cameron originally hailing from Albany, WA, and beginning his AFL career with the Sydney Swans before moving to Collingwood, speculation had been rife that a return west was on the cards.
However, speaking to media this morning, Cameron reaffirmed his loyalty to the black and white.
“I love this club and what we’re building here,” Cameron said. “Collingwood gave me a real opportunity when I needed it most, and I feel like I still have plenty to give here. My focus is on helping us go deep into September again.”
Cameron played a crucial role in Collingwood’s recent premiership campaigns, forming a formidable ruck/forward partnership and stepping up in the absence of injured teammates. His versatility, leadership, and presence around the ground have made him a fan favourite.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest that Collingwood is already working on a contract extension that would keep Cameron at the club until at least the end of 2027.
While West Coast’s pursuit of a mature ruckman continues, Cameron’s decision signals that the Pies are successfully retaining the core of their premiership-contending side.
