Deion Sanders had two special guests at the hospital on Saturday. CU athletic director Rick George and Shedeur Sanders paid a visit to Coach Prime while he was resting at UC Health at University of Colorado Anschutz.
The pair are fresh off a trip to Pac-12 Media Day in Las Vegas yesterday. George was around and mingled with a few media members. While Sanders was featured on the main stage with Travis Hunter and defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, who filled in for Coach Prime.
Sanders, 55, had to stay behind and underwent surgery to remove blood clots. It was the second operation in 27 days for the Hall of Famer. Prime’s longtime love Tracey Edmonds said his surgery was successful. She thanked the entire medical team in an emotional Instagram post.
Kelly did an outstanding job handling Prime’s duties in his absences. He faced the media and took on the scrutiny of Colorado’s roster flip.
Oklahoma coach Brent Venables criticized Sanders, saying he should’ve felt out CU’s roster for at least a year before starting over. Kelly indirectly responded with a strong-worded statement.
“People have their opinion to say what they want to,” Kelly said. “But we did within what the rules allow for us to be able to create the best roster possible for the University of Colorado. We don’t apologize for that.”
Sanders promised he would be back and ready to go prior to CU’s non-conference affair against TCU in Fort Worth on Sept. 2. There was no official word on when he would be released from the hospital.
