Newcastle United are set to recover compensation from FIFA’s Club Protection Programme following Yoane Wissa’s injury or accident.
The programme acts as insurance for players who get injured while representing their countries.
Wissa sustained a knee injury on September 9, 2025, while playing for DR Congo in a 3-2 World Cup qualifier loss to Senegal, a result that brings about major setback to DR Congo’s hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
The injury was also a major blow for Newcastle, who had only recently invested heavily in the proven Premier League striker.
According to the Mail, Newcastle have submitted a request to FIFA to activate the insurance payout.
Under the scheme, no compensation is paid during the first 28 days of a player’s absence (Temporary Total Disablement). After that period, FIFA covers the player’s wages until they return to club action.
For Wissa, this means payments should begin around October 7, 2025, continuing until he makes his Newcastle debut.
FIFA’s programme sets a maximum daily payout of €20,548 (roughly £18,000), which equates to about £126,000 per week. This figure is expected to cover most, if not all, of Wissa’s wages.
Newcastle will now be hoping that Wissa’s recovery is swift, so their time without him and reliance on compensation is kept to a minimum.
